MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT made this day of
between Charlo tte Mary Mew of 9 Gordon Street, Gordon Square , W.C..
herein after termed the Author ) of the one part, and Harold Monro, of
35 Devonshire
Street, Theoba lds Road, W.C., carrying
on busine ss under
the firmname of "The Po e t r y Booksh op " of 35 Devonsh i re Street ,
Theoba lds Road, W.C. Publish ers an d Bookse ll e rs (here i nafter termed
the Publisher)
of th e other part, whereb y it i s mutual ly agreed
b e t ween the parties
hereto for t h emsel v e s and their respec tive
execut ors, admin istrato rs, andassigns (or
success ors, as the case may
be), as
fol l ows:1 . The Publish er shall at his own risk an d expense , and with
due dilige nce, produ ce
and publ ish in the
Spring of 1916
the work at presen t entitle d "The Farmers Bride" by
Charlo tte Mew, in Chapbo ok form at the price of one
shillin g net , or such price as may be hereaf ter agreed
up on b etween the Auth or and the Publ i sher , and sha ll
use hi s best endeav ours to sell
the same.

2 . The Pub l i sher agr ee s to pay th e Author the follow ing
royalti es, that is to say: (a) A royalty of one penny on each and all copies sold.
(b) I n the event of the publ i sh er dispos ing of copies
or edition s at a reduced rate for s ale i n the
Uni t ed States, or elsewh ere, or as remain ders, a
royalty of ten per cent (10%) of the amount r e al i sed
by such sale, in lieu and instea d of the aforesa i d
royalty of one penny .
No royalt i es shall be paid on any copies given away
for review or other purpose s.

The Publisher
shall have the entire oontro l of t h e
publication
and sale an d terms of s ale of th e book
during a peri od of five years f rom the dat e of
publication, throughout
the World, and the Author shall_
not during
the
continu ance of this agr e ement (withou t
the consen t of the Publish er) publish
any abridge ment ,
t ransl a tion ,or dramat ised v er sion of the work .

4. The Author agrees that all costs of correctio ns
and
altera tions (otherthan printe rs errors ) in the proof
sheets exceedi ng t en shillin gs shall be deducted
f r om
the royalti es payable to her.
5. I n the case of the
use of quotat ions or s electi ons
from the sai d book in antho logies and otherwise th e
fees receive d i n paymen t for such rights shall be
d i vided between the parti e s to this agreem ent in the
propor ti on of seventyfive
per cent. (75%) to the Author
and twentyf ive per cent. (25%) to the Publ isher .
6. The Author

as she may require for her use

rad e rates .

7. The accoun ts shall be t rul y an d faithf ully kept and
made up every six months , t o the thirtie th day of June
and the thirtyfi rst
day of December i n each year, and
paymen t is to be made to the author of al l sums due
to her under this agreem ent within one mon th from the
date
of render ing of each account.
