BLACK STUDENT UNION
202 Talbert
Amherst Campus
Dear Black Students, Faculty and Staff,
Recently the Black Student Union elections were
held. I was elected President along with my board of
Taharka Odinga (V.P.). Eileen Strachan (Sec.). Monica
Towles (Treas.), and Lisa Webb (Act. Coordinator).
With these new positions had come the task of turning
the Black Student Union around.
I have the utmost faith in our new boards ability
to achieve this goal, but I also know that we can't
accomplish this goal by ourselves. We need you, the
black faculty and staff at U.B., to help give us the
guidance, leadership and cooperation that we will des
perately need this upcoming year. We will need your
feedback, critisms amd suggestions to help make our
union a functional. responsible and effective organi
zation.
I'm sure that some of you have developed a neg
ative image of the B.S.U. (Black Student Union) and
it will be our (82-83 board) task to eliminate any
and all of the negative images that you have of the
B.S.U. We can't do this without your critisms of the
things that you've seen in the past year(s).
Without this feedback, we may repeat some of the things
that you have been dissappointed with. This we do not
want to do.
For those of you who have seen something positive
in our organization's past efforts, let us know so that
we will be able to duplicate and/or increase those
events, activities or whatever it was that impressed
you.
For those of you who haven't seen anything posi
tive or negative, I'm sure that you will have some
suggestions as to how we can become an effective B.S.U.
I guess what it boils down to is that we, the
Black Student Union, need each and everyone of you to
help us get our union together. Call or come by our
office at 202 Talbert and leave your ideas and/or
critisms with us so that we can prosper from this feed
back. Our phone number is 636-3029 and my home phone
number is 895-1484.
Together I feel that we can develop a Black Student
Union that all of us, faculty, staff and students, can
be proud of. We don't profess to be able to turn the
B.S.U. around in one year but we do profess to begin the
process of getting the Black Student Union on the right
track. Please help us help the black students at U.B.
and together we will all prosper.
Thank you,
Arthur o. Eve Jr.
President (82-83)
BLACK STUDENT UNION
