Facts about Hurricane Katrina
• Hurricane Katrina was the costliest and one of the deadliest
hurricanes in the history of the United States.
• It was the sixth-strongest Atlantic hurricane ever recorded and the
third-strongest land falling U.S. hurricane ever recorded.
• Katrina is responsible for 81.2 Billion dollars in damages and the
deaths of 1,836 people
• 80% of the city of New Orleans and 20% of the New Orleans
metropolitan area is below sea level
• There were 28 reports of levee failures the day Katrina made
landfall in New Orleans
• The destruction could have totally been prevented if necessary
precautions were made
