BSU meeting
focuses on new
constitution, history

The first Black Student Union
meeting of the semester was held at
Deifendorf Hall last Wednesday.
After a reading of the day's
agenda and requests for volunteers
for various functions, BSU Presi
dent Scott Norman spoke about the
need for a new constitution.
"The constitution we (BSU) have
now is becoming obsolete, it's not
serving its function anymore," he
said.
'Give a little of yourselr
To help create this new consti
tution, a committee was formed to
look into creating a more updated
version.
"Give a little of yourself," BSU
Secretary Ramona Gore said. Gore
stressed the importance of becom
ing involved in BSU. Members
should give as much time as they
can to help make BSU work, she
said.
"Whoever runs for office should
be a people-person and able to
convey information to the other
members," Gore said.
Vice President Tabitha Ngwashi
announced that BSU will be spon
soring two rap sessions. One will
be held in the T.V. lounge at
Goodyear Hall featuring Henry
Taylor, chairman of the program in
applied public affairs studies (PA
PAS) on Friday Feburary 8 at 4
p.m ..
The rap sessions will cover the
topics of light skin/dark skin com
plexions and sexual assault against
women.
Acknowledge your history
Later in the meeting, a member
of the All African Peoples Repub
lic in the audience spoke out about
Black students becoming involved
with the All African Peonies Re-
public.
" Before you do anything you
must know the history of BSU and
how the problems on the interna
tional scene affects students at UB ,"
he explained. He went on to talk
about what can be done to enhance
BSU so more students will come to
meetings.

Sha-king Alston added, "Canvass

Norman then distributed ques
tionnaires asking what things stu
dents would like to see happen to
find our what students want from
BSU.
The meeting adjourned with an
nouncements of the schedule of
events proposed for Black History
Month.
BSU will sponsor their annual
cultural show on Febr,uary 17.
Performers, models, ushers, and
stage hands are needed. Anyone
